Israel has killed 55 Palestinian journalists since 2000

On May 11, 2022, while Shireen Abu Akleh a Palestinian journalist was wearing a blue vest with “PRESS” written on it, she was shot and killed while covering an Israeli military raid on Jenin refugee camp and attacked mourners carrying Shireen’s body from the hospital.

And used stun grenades and tear gas and charged at them with horses and batons.

More than 144 journalists, both Palestinian and foreign, were subjected to attacks by the occupation army during their coverage of events in occupied Palestine during the past four years.

Including shooting at them, throwing tear gas and sound bombs, hitting them with sticks, and dragging them, which left severe injuries, most of which resulted in permanent disabilities, such as loss of limbs and eyes, and disfigurements in the face.

In 2021, the Palestinian Center for Freedom and Development (MADA) documented more than 368 violations, including 155 direct violations, including injuries and killings against Palestinian journalists.

3 journalists were martyred during the war on the Gaza Strip: Muhammad Shaheen, Abdul Hamid Al-Kolak, and Youssef Muhammad Abu Hussein.

At the beginning of the year, the Center documented in its monthly follow-up 100 violations against journalists, most of them during the month of April.

Journalists who were killed by the occupation and others who were seriously injured and permanently disabled

  • Youssef Al-Karnaz lost his left leg while covering the events of the return march in 2018 in Gaza.
  • Sami Masran Al-Quds TV journalist who lost an eye after being shot in the year 2019.
  • Ali Gad-Allah was targeted three times with a rubber bullet in the head.
  • Yusef Abu Hussein The journalist who was killed in 2021 as a result of the Israeli bombing of Gaza City.
  •  Simone Camilli and Ali Shehda Abu Afash Italian Associated Press journalist and his Palestinian translator Killed by an Israeli missile explosion in Gaza in 2014.
  • Rachel Corrie an American activist and diarist and member of the pro-Palestinian group was crushed to death by an Israeli defense force (IDF)armored bulldozer in a southern Gaza strip combat zone during the height of the second Palestinian intifada under contested circumstances.
