Tor Wennesland, The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, discussed Friday the latest developments in Jerusalem, West Bank, and the Gaza Strip with Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s political head, through a telephone call.
Hamas, The Palestinian resistance movement, said Tor Wennesland informed Ismail Haniyeh about meetings he held with regional and international parties and the tension that mounted in Jerusalem, West Bank, and Gaza Strip.

Wennesland said he sent three important messages to Israel which were the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque to non-Muslims till the end of Ramadan, the end of the attacks and the raids in the West Bank, and pacifying of tensions, it said in a statement.
The envoy also mentioned the contacts with the Jordanian administration as part of permanent preserving the historical status of holy places in Jerusalem, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Haniyeh praised Egypt, Qatar, the UN, and Wennesland’s efforts, noting that they show the severity of the current tension.
Also, He warned that if tension increases in Al-Aqsa Mosque and Gaza, things might get out of control.
Since the creation of the apartheid illegal wall in 2002, Jerusalem has been isolated on all sides, and visiting by Palestinians based in West Bank has become complicated and limited.

Israel prevents West Bank-based Palestinians from reaching Jerusalem except on Fridays in Ramadan. Moreover, it does not allow Gazans to visit Jerusalem throughout the year.
