His courage:
Ahmed Al-Baraa ibn Aazib (May Allah show mercy to them) said: If the war becomes severe, we shield ourselves from the enemy. We do that by getting behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The brave one from amongst us was the one who would stand next to the Messenger of Allah.
Anas Ibn Malik (May Allah show mercy to them) said: ”The Prophet (PBUH) was the best of the people. He was the most generous of the people, and the bravest of all”. Bukhari/Muslim
The Prophet (peace be upon him) was a very courageous man, not a courageous man, but he was the most courageous of men. His enemies and the leaders of the opponents flew when they had to face him in many critical battles. He (peace be upon him) could face hard situations and hardship with a persistent heart and strong faith. Anas Ibn Malek, confirmed the courage of the Prophet Mohamed, with a situation that happened to the people of Madina. When they heard a flashy noise, they feel scared, so they head off to know the cause of it. The Messenger met them on their way, while he was riding a horse, carrying his sword, equipped to defend the people against any intruders. He (PBUH) comforted the people of Madeenah, saying: “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Another example of the courage of the prophet is when the disbelievers united against him and tried to kill him. They set their men, and so about fifty of them surrounded his house, but the Prophet (SWA), wasn’t afraid at all. He slept and at midnight, he went out and threw dust in their faces. He set out and left ‘Ali (PUH) in his place. Also, he said to Abo Bakr “do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us”.
What the Prophet did when Allah commanded him to approach his people:
When the prophet Mohamed (SAW) commanded to approach his tribe, his city, his people and publicize his mission. It seemed to many of them out of the blue. No preparation, no rehearsal, no early signs. The prophet doesn’t have second thoughts about it. He went to the most notable spot in Mecca Mount Alsafa, right in the middle of Mecca. Some sort of the town center where everyone does business there. Everyone who has work goes there. Political affairs that they need to discuss, they will discuss it there.
The prophet Mohammad went to the busiest area where they decide and discuss all-important affairs. He mounts the small hill of Al-Safa and he calls out on people. He called all different tribes within Koresh. When they all gather around him, he said to them ”do you know or have you ever experienced any lie from me”. They said no, then he said “have you seen a moment of dishonesty from me. They said “no”. He said, “I’m a warner to you from Allah warning you a severe punishment”.
The Messenger was trustworthy!
In one narration he said to them “If I tell you there is an army behind that mountain that is about to attack Mecca, would you guys believe me.” They said “, no doubts, in that, we never saw any lie from you”. The prophet told them “I’m a messenger from Allah to warn you against the severe punishment. He reminds them to worship Allah. They are all in a state of bafflement and shock. Mohammed wasn’t that an important figure in Mecca. Honesty and good character are what Mohammad was known for. He wasn’t a political leader, social leader, or even an activist there.
He now speaks to them about a very mighty subject, his invitation to worship Allah means that they have to change their religion and lifestyle. This moment was a turning point in the life of the prophet Mohamed because the dynamics of his DAWA changed. It seems to be against everyone in Mecca except for a handful of weak people, insignificant individuals, who don’t have resources, power, or wealth. This might seem at a first glance to be against him, that his call wasn’t received as expected.
This gave the prophet (SWA) publicity and expanded his reach to people. So, many people started to become Muslim afterward and in secret. This point in the prophet’s (SWA) life proved an important characteristic of the prophet Mohamed (SWA): which is a great deal of courage. It takes heart to stand in front of Mecca and challenge them without tricks, euphemism, or sweat language. It was straight forward.
His patience:
Mohamed (peace be upon him) said people were rude to him. The desert Arabs were rude to him, and he never returned their rudeness with rudeness. He smiled in their faces. He returned their bad manners with good character. This what he taught us to be with people, and you know we have to struggle. There was a woman who was in the graveyard. She was moaning over, and the prophet Mohamed passed by and said: “This is a test from Allah and you should be patient. She said you didn’t have the tribulation that I had” and he (SWA) left her.
Now, look at the character. He didn’t say don’t you know who I am, I’m the messenger of Allah. You can’t talk to me like that, he didn’t say that. He saw she was in tribulation, and he left her to be in her tribulation. He gave her advice and she didn’t accept it. But he recognized her psychological state. She was in a state that was not useful or beneficial to continue with her, so he left her. When the woman know that he was the messenger of Allah, remorse entered his heart. She went to his house and knocked on the door, Ya Rasool Allah. I didn’t know it was you, and the messenger of Allah said: “patience is in the first calamity”.
The point is that Allah doesn’t want you to lose control. That’s what called Mojahada. That is learning to suppress the soul for the sake of Allah, because we are here for Allah, to do it for Allah’s sake.
